Where it's all FREE for the community to come and enjoy! In 2009, we had over 300 people show up!! 2nd Saturday's Pancake Breakfast: On these breakfast days you can come and be welcomed by everyone in the congregation with a breakfast fit for a King. For $3.00 per person, or $5.00 for a family, you can enjoy a wonderful breakfast and conversation. The Food Pantry: One of the most important community ministries Bethel offers is the Eastwood Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry directed by Nancy and Tom M. Each week members from Bethel Reformed, Second Reformed, Hope Reformed and St. Mary's Catholic churches volunteer their time to make sure hungry families receive food. In 2008 the number of people receiving emergency food assistance increased 24% over 2007! 4,542 adults and children from 1,567 households received help from us last year. The Eastwood food pantry is a vital ministry on the eastside of Kalamazoo. Bethel Reformed Church has been our home for many years. Our hours are:
Four weeks of the month... hours are as follows: Our pantry is staffed with volunteers from Bethel Reformed Church, Hope Reformed Church, Comstock Church of Christ, St. Mary's and Faith Reformed Church. Every client and family makes their own choices and receives a variety of protein, starches, fruits and vegetables. This ensures they have a balanced diet. Our clients are increasing and our donations have decreased. If you can help with donations of food, money or time, please call the church office ((269)-349-2222) or the Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes (269-488-2617). If you are in need of food, please call Loaves and Fishes at: (269)-343-3663. We are here to
help make sure no one goes hungry in Kalamazoo... Angel Tree Ministry: This Christmas saw Bethel's involvement with the Angel Tree prison ministry program undergo a major increase. Under Mary W. enthusiastic leadership Bethel folks were able to care for 11 children from 8 different families. Using individual donations and our October monthly mission offering, Mary was able to recruit and organize congregation members who shopped and delivered Christmas gifts to children whose mothers or fathers were incarcerated and unable to buy presents for their children. Heifer International Christmas Project: Bethel's 2008 congregational Christmas project supporting Heifer International easily surpassed out goal of $600.00. The final total of $740.00 was more than we have ever raised before! During worship on December 28th, the congregation voted for the animals to be purchased. Sometime in the new few months needy families will receive gifts of water buffalos, rabbits, honey bees, and tree seedlings for their use. A massive "Thank-You" to everyone who saved and gave so others could receive Christmas gifts that will improve their lives for many years to come! Internet Ministries: Bethel created our first web-site to promote and share information about Bethel's various ministries and activities such as the Community Services, Bethel News, and Calendar Events within Bethel's Community. In the first three weeks after the web-site was created the site had 325 total visitors. The web-site is introducing us to another way to communicate our mission of "sharing God's love with others"! We have added a toolbar with the Church's logo, and you can now get updates and important information online from the Church just by downloading the toolbar onto your computer. We are expanding weekly our Internet presence, with easy to use tools, and interactive services. We will be adding a e-bulletin to our web-site, you will be able to sign up soon for this.
